Day 1 - Arrive Saumur - stroll around this 'City of the Horse'. Dinner in one of the city's original restaurants (incl)

Day 2 - Morning excursion to Saumur's colourful market and the option of a boat ride on the Loire. Afternoon, walk from near the troglodyte village of Rochmenier on pathways through forest and along the river back to Saumur.

Day 3 - Walking starts from near an 11th century abbey - through vineyards and poppy-filled countryside to the walled town of Montreuil-Bellay. Dinner in a 12th century tithe barn, now a restaurant (incl)

Day 4 - Take the morning to explore Montreuil- Bellay, then walk through a rural landscape to the cobbled city of Chinon.

Day 5 - Explore Chinon and its chateau which bears strong links to Joan of Arc. A path high above the town passes many examples of troglodyte dwellings. Sample the ruby-red Chinon wine.

Day 6 - Transfer to Usse, the chateau and forest that inspired the writing of Sleeping Beauty. Walk through bountiful orchards and vineyards to the town of Azay-le-Rideau and visit one of the most beautiful chateaux in France. At night fall, enjoy a son et lumiere in the chateau grounds.

Day 7 - Stroll through grey-stone villages above the confluence of the Loire and Vienne Rivers. Experience the Abbey of Fontevraud then wine, dine and rest in an enchanting troglodyte hotel.

Day 8 - Follow a trail through vineyards and troglodyte villages to a reputed winery for a tasting and tour of their underground cellars. Take the path that meanders above the Loire back to your beautiful Saumur hotel.

Day 9 - After a tasty breakfast, your arrangements terminate.
